Sugisawa no Sawa-sugi cedar grove

About this spot

This cedar grove in the Yoshiwara district of Nyuzen Town is designated a national natural monument. Water welling up at the edge of the Kurobe River alluvial fan flows across the forest floor, and within it the cedars show a distinctive form, sending branches down to the ground to take root. A boardwalk is in place, so you can walk right up beside the springs. The way the clear water flows without a sound feels cool even in summer, and you notice the air change the moment you enter the grove. Visiting after learning that the waterside plaza, the star of the day, expresses a river of spring water will change how you see the afternoon play.

「入善町中央公園親水広場」は、入善町の入善町中央公園にある無料の水遊び場です。入善町公式には「水があふれる町をイメージし、湧水の流れる川を表現した、小さな子どもたちが直接水に触れて遊べる施設」と記されており、黒部川扇状地の湧水の町という土地柄がそのまま形になっています。流れをたどりながら水に手足をひたせる造りなので、深いところが苦手な子でも自分のペースで遊べます。開設期間は未発表で、例年は春から秋にかけて楽しめますが、町公式に期間の記載はありません。同じ園内にはふわふわドーム(9:00〜17:00)があり、陸上競技場、野球場、総合体育館も並ぶ広い公園なので、水に飽きたら別の遊びへ移れます。利用は無料なので、短時間だけ立ち寄る使い方もできます。

Tips

開設期間の記載がないため、訪れる前に入善町へ確認するか、公園の掲示で当日の状況を確かめてください。石を組んだ流れは滑りやすいので、マリンシューズなど足を守れる履き物を用意しましょう。着替えの場所は限られるため、タオルポンチョがあると手早く済みます。30分に一度は水から上がって水分を取り、木陰で休憩をはさみながら遊ぶと熱中症を防げます。おむつが取れていない子は水遊び用おむつを準備してください。

Tips

Follow the signs and stay on the boardwalk. If you put your hand in the spring water, take care not to harm the plants or creatures. Mosquitoes appear inside the grove, so insect repellent makes the visit more comfortable. Check the opening hours and how to visit with the town of Nyuzen in advance.
