A prefectural art museum in Kameyama-cho, Yamaguchi City, holding works by artists connected with Yamaguchi along with Japanese-style painting and modern and contemporary art. The galleries have high ceilings and generous circulation, so families with children can walk around with little worry of bumping into others. Even without reading difficult explanations, large paintings and three-dimensional works catch children's eyes. During special exhibitions, worksheets for parents and children are sometimes prepared, making it suitable for a first museum experience. Spend the morning indoors where it is cool, and save energy for the afternoon water play.

Tips

Admission differs between the collection exhibition and special exhibitions. Check opening days, fees and exhibition content on the official website in advance. You can go around with a stroller, but the building is quiet, so a word to small children beforehand is reassuring. It adjoins Kameyama Park, and you can walk from here to the next stop, the St. Francis Xavier Memorial Church.
