Standing within the grounds of Kajo Park (霞城公園), this comprehensive museum introduces the nature, archaeology, history and folklore of Yamagata Prefecture in one place. The range is wide, from large taxidermied animals and fossils found within the prefecture to earthenware and everyday tools, so something is bound to catch a child's curiosity. The exhibition rooms follow a one-way route that is easy to walk, and families with small children can finish the loop while attention still holds. Spending the cool morning hours indoors also saves energy for the afternoon water play. You will naturally pick up background knowledge about the Yamagata Castle ruins you walk next.

Venue: 山形市・西公園(遊びの森)

山形市の西公園(遊びの森)にある無料の水遊び場が「西公園じゃぶじゃぶ池」です。令和8年度は4月25日(土)から9月下旬まで、8:30〜16:30の時間帯で開放されます。ただし開放日は市公式PDF「令和8年度じゃぶじゃぶ池日程表」で指定された日のみなので、必ず出発前に日程表を確認してください。池のすぐそばには水遊び装置付きの大型木製遊具があり、水に飽きたら遊具、遊具に飽きたらまた水と、子どもが自分のペースで遊び続けられます。広い芝生広場もあるので、木陰にレジャーシートを敷いて休憩をはさみながら過ごせます。源泉かけ流しの足湯・手湯「のびのびガーデン」があり、水遊びで冷えた体を最後に温められるのがこの公園ならではの楽しみ方です。

Tips

利用は無料です(屋内多目的コート・テニスコート・キャンプ場のみ有料)。16:30で終了なので、着替えの時間を見込んで16時ごろには水から上がると落ち着いて帰れます。かまど21カ所を備えたいも煮広場やパークセンターがあり、休憩や道具の確認に使えます。おむつが取れていない子は水遊び用おむつを用意してください。足湯は源泉かけ流しなので、拭き取り用の小さなタオルがあると便利です。

Tips

Using the Kajo Park parking lot means you will not have to move the car before the castle-ruins stroll that follows. You can go around inside with a stroller. Admission can change depending on the opening calendar and special exhibition periods, so check the official website in advance.
