Ninomaru Higashi-Ote Gate (二ノ丸東大手門)

About this spot

This park was created on the site of the Yamagata Castle ruins, and its greenery is so extensive that it hardly feels like the middle of the city. The highlight is the Ninomaru Higashi-Ote Gate (二ノ丸東大手門), rebuilt in wood; passing under the thick pillars and the massive gate makes children look up in awe. The paths along the moat and stone walls are flat and easy to walk, so strollers are no problem. The setting for the materials seen in the museum is right there in front of you, which keeps the conversation going, a real plus for families. There is plenty of shade but also open stretches, so do not forget hats and drinks.

Venue: 山形市・西公園(遊びの森)

山形市の西公園(遊びの森)にある無料の水遊び場が「西公園じゃぶじゃぶ池」です。令和8年度は4月25日(土)から9月下旬まで、8:30〜16:30の時間帯で開放されます。ただし開放日は市公式PDF「令和8年度じゃぶじゃぶ池日程表」で指定された日のみなので、必ず出発前に日程表を確認してください。池のすぐそばには水遊び装置付きの大型木製遊具があり、水に飽きたら遊具、遊具に飽きたらまた水と、子どもが自分のペースで遊び続けられます。広い芝生広場もあるので、木陰にレジャーシートを敷いて休憩をはさみながら過ごせます。源泉かけ流しの足湯・手湯「のびのびガーデン」があり、水遊びで冷えた体を最後に温められるのがこの公園ならではの楽しみ方です。

Tips

利用は無料です(屋内多目的コート・テニスコート・キャンプ場のみ有料)。16:30で終了なので、着替えの時間を見込んで16時ごろには水から上がると落ち着いて帰れます。かまど21カ所を備えたいも煮広場やパークセンターがあり、休憩や道具の確認に使えます。おむつが取れていない子は水遊び用おむつを用意してください。足湯は源泉かけ流しなので、拭き取り用の小さなタオルがあると便利です。

Tips

During periods when the interior of the gate is open you can climb the stairs and look inside. Bicycles also pass through the park, so holding small children's hands is safer. To save energy for the afternoon water play, keep it to a stroll of about 40 minutes rather than lingering.
