Nishi Park Jabu-Jabu Pond (西公園 じゃぶじゃぶ池) is a free water play area in Nishi Park, the Forest of Play (西公園(遊びの森)) in Yamagata City. In fiscal 2026 it is open from Saturday, April 25 until late September, from 8:30 to 16:30. However, it is open only on the days specified in the city's official PDF schedule for the fiscal 2026 Jabu-Jabu Pond, so be sure to check the schedule before you set out. Right beside the pond is a large wooden play structure fitted with water features, so children can keep going at their own pace, switching to the equipment when they tire of the water and back to the water when they tire of the equipment. There is also a wide lawn plaza, so you can lay a picnic sheet in the shade and work rest breaks into the day. The Nobinobi Garden (のびのびガーデン) footbath and handbath, fed by free-flowing hot spring water, lets you warm up at the end after cooling off in the water, a way of enjoying the day unique to this park.

Tips

Use is free (only the indoor multipurpose court, tennis courts and campground charge a fee). It ends at 16:30, so allowing time to change and getting out of the water around 16:00 makes for a calm departure. There is an imoni (taro stew) plaza with 21 stoves and a park center, useful for resting and checking your gear. For children still in diapers, bring swim diapers. The footbath uses free-flowing hot spring water, so a small towel for drying off comes in handy.

Best time to visit

About 2 hours 45 minutes. The afternoon, when the sunlight softens, is recommended, leaving plenty of time to play until the 16:30 close.
