A domain school established by the Shonai domain to educate the children of its retainers, and one of the few examples nationwide where the buildings still stand. Sitting in the wide lecture hall, you are met with a quiet air that smells of wood and tatami, and children naturally lower their voices. The displays introduce the textbooks and teaching methods of the time, so you can walk around talking about how they differ from schools today. It is right beside Tsuruoka Park (鶴岡公園), making it easy to link with the stroll and water play that follow. Being indoors, it also helps you avoid the morning heat.

鶴岡公園の二の丸広場(参道側)に設けられた無料の水遊び場が「鶴岡公園二の丸広場水遊び場(床噴水)」です。令和8年7月3日(金)から8月30日(日)まで、9:00〜18:00に稼働します。5.4m×4.5mの床噴水は人感センサー式で、人が近づくと水が噴き上がり、無人になると約30秒で停止する仕組み。周囲は幅90cmの人工芝マットで囲まれていて、ケガ防止のためサンダル等を履いたままでも遊べるので、小さな子でも足元を気にせず走れます。簡易更衣室とベンチ、二の丸広場のあずまやがあるため、着替えや休憩の場所に困りません。城跡の木立に囲まれた広場なので、真夏でも木陰に逃げ込みながら過ごせるのがこの場所の強みです。

Tips

8月13日から16日は21:00まで延長されます。二の丸広場でイベント等がある場合も稼働時間が延びるので、夕方以降に遊びたい日は事前に確認してください。プールではないので浮き輪などの大きな遊具は持ち込まず、走り回るときは周囲の人に気を配りましょう。着替えは簡易更衣室を利用できます。おむつが取れていない子は水遊び用おむつを用意してください。

Tips

Admission is free. There are closed days, so check the opening calendar in the official information before you go. You will step up into tatami rooms, so shoes that slip on and off easily make things smoother. The interior is a quiet space, so a word to small children beforehand helps.
