Former Takano Family Residence, Kanzo Yashiki (旧高野家住宅甘草屋敷)

About this spot

Step out of the north exit of JR Enzan Station (塩山駅) and a large gabled roof immediately catches your eye: this is Kanzo Yashiki (甘草屋敷), the former Takano Family Residence. It was the home of the Takano family, who grew medicinal licorice by order of the shogunate during the Edo period, and it is designated a National Important Cultural Property. The distinctive row of small roofs projecting from the main roof is a trace of ingenuity that also served silkworm raising. Inside, thick pillars and a broad earthen floor surprise children with the scale of life back then. It is a quiet space you would never expect right by a station, perfect for a leisurely walk at the start of the day.

塩山ふれあいの森総合公園ひょうたん池は、自然散策エリアにある無料の水遊びスポットです。勢いよく噴き上がる噴水と滝があり、水音を聞きながら涼をとれます。2026年は5月2日(土)から開放され、8:30〜18:00に利用できるので、朝から夕方まで時間を気にせず過ごせます。約16haの総合公園には遊具広場のフルーツパラダイス、ウォーキングコース、展望台、多目的広場、市民体育館がそろっており、水遊びに飽きても行き先に困りません。まわりを木立が囲んでいるため日陰が確保しやすく、真夏でも比較的過ごしやすい環境です。

Tips

料金は無料です。開放は5月2日(土)からの8:30〜18:00で、終了日は未発表(夏季の目安として9月末)のため、甲州市の公式ページ(https://www.city.koshu.yamanashi.jp/docs/2025050200017/)で必ず事前確認を。5月や9月は水が冷たく感じることがあるので、羽織るものを1枚持っていくと安心です。着替えの場所は限られるためタオルポンチョがあると便利。池のまわりは足元がぬれてすべりやすいので、走らないよう声をかけましょう。

Tips

Admission is about 320 yen for adults, with discounted or free entry for elementary and junior high school students (please check the facility's information for the latest fees and closing days). You remove your shoes to go inside, so shoes that are easy to slip on and off are handy. Being right by the station, it also makes a natural starting point if you come by train.
