About this spot

A community-rooted local railway linking central Kurashiki with the Mizushima industrial district. Short trains amble along, and the way the scenery outside the window shifts from housing to factory pipes and tanks becomes an unexpected highlight for children. Freight trains also run on this line, so with the right timing you may meet a powerful locomotive. Stand behind the driver's cab and you can watch the rails stretching ahead the whole way. Here the time it takes to reach your destination becomes part of the fun, a way of getting around that only this town offers.

倉敷市の「水島中央公園噴水広場」は、地面から吹き上がるポップジェット噴水が主役の無料の水遊びスポットです。決まった場所から急に水柱が上がるので、子どもたちは水の出るタイミングを読み合いながら走り回ることになり、それだけで何時間でも遊べてしまいます。水深のあるプールとは違って足元だけが濡れる遊び方なので、まだ泳げない小さな子でも参加しやすいのが利点です。同じ園内に大型遊具や芝生広場があり、体が冷えたら遊具へ、疲れたら木陰へと移動できます。野球場やプールなどのスポーツ施設も併設された、水島の中心にある大きな公園です。

2026年の噴水の開設期間は未発表です。例年は夏休み期間なので、出発前に倉敷市の案内で当日水が出るかを確認してください。噴水の周りは濡れた床がすべりやすいので、走らないよう声をかけ、脱げにくいサンダルかマリンシューズを履かせましょう。日陰が少ない広場なので、こまめに木陰へ戻って休憩をとってください。着替えとタオル、濡れた服を入れるビニール袋は人数分そろえておくと帰りが楽です。

Tips

Check fares and timetables on the official information in advance. Trains are not frequent, so looking up the return time as well keeps your plan from falling apart. Strollers may need to be folded when the cars get crowded, so a baby carrier is reassuring. Platforms have little shade in summer, so arrive in line with the timetable to avoid a long wait.
