A district library of Kurashiki City in the middle of the Mizushima townscape. There is a children's section where you can browse at your own pace, from picture books to longer reads. The air-conditioned interior is just the place to settle a body flushed from walking outside. Slipping one quiet stretch into the morning keeps the rhythm of the day intact even after an all-out splash session in the afternoon. Because it is a facility close to local life, it also offers a look at the everyday side of the town that travelers rarely see.

倉敷市の「水島中央公園噴水広場」は、地面から吹き上がるポップジェット噴水が主役の無料の水遊びスポットです。決まった場所から急に水柱が上がるので、子どもたちは水の出るタイミングを読み合いながら走り回ることになり、それだけで何時間でも遊べてしまいます。水深のあるプールとは違って足元だけが濡れる遊び方なので、まだ泳げない小さな子でも参加しやすいのが利点です。同じ園内に大型遊具や芝生広場があり、体が冷えたら遊具へ、疲れたら木陰へと移動できます。野球場やプールなどのスポーツ施設も併設された、水島の中心にある大きな公園です。

2026年の噴水の開設期間は未発表です。例年は夏休み期間なので、出発前に倉敷市の案内で当日水が出るかを確認してください。噴水の周りは濡れた床がすべりやすいので、走らないよう声をかけ、脱げにくいサンダルかマリンシューズを履かせましょう。日陰が少ない広場なので、こまめに木陰へ戻って休憩をとってください。着替えとタオル、濡れた服を入れるビニール袋は人数分そろえておくと帰りが楽です。
