Yoshikawa Hachimangu Shrine (吉川八幡宮)

This old shrine in Yoshikawa, Kibichuo Town is said to have been founded in the Heian period. Climb the stone steps surrounded by cedar groves and a calm shrine hall appears among the hills. The Toban Festival held in autumn is known as an event handed down in the community for centuries, and within the precincts you can feel the depth of time that local people have protected. The highland morning air is cool, so walking the approach path is no burden even in midsummer. Starting the day in a stillness quite unlike a busy tourist site makes the play that follows feel all the more refreshing.

加賀郡吉備中央町のきびプラザにある「にじいろ広場水遊び場」は、屋外広場に設けられた無料の水遊びスポットです。水遊び場のほかに長いローラーコースターや複合遊具があり、濡れて冷えたら滑り台、乾いたらまた水へと、行き来しながら遊べるのがこの広場の楽しいところ。屋内には子どもひろば「キッズパーク」も併設されているので、日ざしが強すぎる時間や急な雨のときの逃げ場があるのも安心です。隣接する吉備中央公園も自由に使えるため、遊び足りない日は場所を広げられます。吉備高原は標高が高く、市街地より風が涼しいので、夏の水遊びが体にやさしいのもこの土地ならではです。

Tips

水遊び場の運転は10:00〜15:00です。例年5〜9月は土日祝の運転、夏休み期間は毎日の運転ですが、2026年の具体的な開設期間は未発表なので、出発前に吉備中央町の案内で確認してください。終了が15時と早いため、午後の予定は逆算して組み立てましょう。高原は日ざしが強く、朝夕は涼しくなるので、帽子と羽織りものの両方があると快適です。着替えとタオル、濡れた服を入れるビニール袋は人数分そろえておくと帰りが楽になります。

Tips

There are stone steps, so wear shoes that are easy to walk in. This is a place of worship, so a word beforehand about not running around keeps things smooth. On festival days the precincts and the surrounding area get crowded, so check the dates before you go. There are many mosquitoes among the trees, so bringing insect repellent makes the visit far more comfortable.
