Kameko Station (亀甲駅) on the JR Tsuyama Line is known for a station building shaped like a giant turtle. The design comes from the turtle legend behind the place name, and a clock is set into the part that forms the eye. Trains are infrequent, but if you time your visit you can photograph the turtle building together with a diesel railcar. It is a small station that is unstaffed at certain hours, and the unhurried air, completely unlike a city station, leaves a lasting impression. Let this very local scene mark the start of your day.

久米郡美咲町の「まきばの館流れる小川」は、高台から湧いた水が園内を流れ下るコンクリート舗装の浅い小川で、滝とあわせて水遊びが楽しめます。プールのように区切られた水面ではなく上流から下流へたどれる「流れ」なので、子どもは水の道を歩く探検気分になり、同じ場所にとどまらず遊び続けられます。舗装されていて底が見えるので、川遊びのように足を取られる不安が少ないのも家族連れにはうれしいところ。約5haの敷地にはラベンダー園やハーブ園、アスレチック広場、動物広場、デイキャンプ場があり、水に飽きたらすぐに別の遊びへ移れます。入園は無料で、気軽に立ち寄れるのがこの施設のよさです。

2026年の開設期間は未発表です。例年は夏季の水遊びとなるため、出発前に施設の案内で当日水が流れているかを確認してください。舗装面は濡れるとすべりやすいので、脱げにくいサンダルかマリンシューズを履かせ、走らないよう声をかけましょう。湧き水は冷たいので、小さな子は体が冷えすぎないようこまめに上がって休憩をとってください。日陰は木立に限られるため、レジャーシートやポップアップテントがあると休憩が楽になります。着替えとタオル、濡れた服を入れるビニール袋は人数分そろえておくと帰りが楽です。

Tips

Check the train timetable in advance and time your visit to an arrival so the photos come easily. The platform and tracks are part of railway operations, so do not enter without a ticket. Parking space is limited, so take care not to obstruct traffic in the area. There is little shade, so bring a hat and drinks and keep the stop short.
