Kamabuchi Falls
About this spot
This waterfall on the Dai River (台川) lies deep in Hanamaki Onsen. It is known for the way the water spreads like a fan as it falls over a broad rock face, and just a few minutes down the walking path you are wrapped in a coolness that feels like another world. Thanks to the sound of the falls and the shade of the trees, the air here alone stays chilly even in high summer. The walk is short, so even families with small children can make the round trip comfortably. It is a well-suited stop for savoring the pleasure of water with your eyes and ears before the afternoon water play.
Tips
The path consists of wooden steps and packed earth, and becomes slippery after rain. Wear shoes that are easy to walk in rather than sandals. Do not approach the plunge pool; view the falls in accordance with the railings and signs. There are sections a stroller cannot descend, so a baby carrier is safer. There are many insects, so repellent adds comfort. When the water is high or the weather is bad, do not push on, and turn back.
Best time to visit
About 45 minutes. The shade is deep, so you can walk in the cool even in the strong sun before noon
