The free water play area within WADO Park Hanamaki (Iwate Prefectural Hanamaki Regional Park) in Hanamaki City is the WADO Park Hanamaki (Iwate Prefectural Hanamaki Regional Park) Jabujabu Pond. Its greatest distinction is that it draws water from a mountain stream, giving it a chill quite unlike water play areas fed by tap water, and it feels all the better the hotter the day. The park is open from April 1, 2026 to mid-December, from 9:00 to 17:00, and admission is free. The opening period of the Jabujabu Pond has not been announced; in past years it has opened during the summer holidays. Right beside it are the stream-fed waterside known as the English Coast, associated with Miyazawa Kenji (宮沢賢治), a children's playground with varied equipment, and Kanaya Pond (金矢池), so being able to move back and forth between water and land all day is what makes this park special.

Tips

Fridays are cleaning days for the Jabujabu Pond. Because it draws water from a mountain stream, use may be suspended during water shortages: in 2025 a suspension due to low water was announced on August 1 and it reopened on August 8. The opening period has also not been announced, so be sure to check the latest official information for the operating status before you set out. Stream water is cold and chills the body easily, so get out often, dry off with a towel, and bring something to put on over your clothes. Footwear that protects the feet, such as marine shoes, is essential so you do not cut your feet on the bottom of the pond. Follow the on-site notices regarding whether children who are not yet toilet-trained may enter the water. The park closes at 17:00, so allowing time to change and pack up and finishing a little early is the safer plan.
