Higashi-Sanbe Flower Valley Jabu-Jabu Pond

About this spot

The Higashi-Sanbe Flower Valley Jabu-Jabu Pond is a free water-play spot at Higashi-Sanbe Flower Valley in Iinan Town, Iishi District. Fed by the famous Shizumi spring water, the pond is only about 15 to 20 cm deep, so even toddlers who have just begun to walk can wade in. Because it is spring water, it is astonishingly cold, chilling the body if you stay in too long even in midsummer. Surrounded by mountains, the climate is milder than on the lowlands, which is a big draw for a summer outing. There is an event plaza and a water-drawing point in the grounds, and you may see people filling containers with the famous spring water to take home. On Sundays and public holidays from April to October, Yamame no Tani opens for pond fishing and catch-by-hand, so you can build a full day around it alongside the water play.

Tips

No staff is stationed on site, so use is at your own risk. An adult must always be watching close by; never let children play alone. The opening period has not been announced, so check the official site (https://flowervalley.jp/) for the day's status before you set out. The spring water is cold, so it is safer to get out and rest before lips turn blue. Bring an extra layer and plenty of towels. We also recommend confirming the operating days and fees for Yamame no Tani and the opening hours of Uguisu Chaya in advance. For children not yet out of nappies, please bring swim nappies.

Best time to visit

About 2 hours 30 minutes. The afternoon, once the temperature has peaked, is recommended, but the spring water is cold, so take breaks as you play.
