Next stop: Stroll through spacious grounds with flower beds and a greenhouse, surrounded by greeneryAbout this spot
Located in Shibuno-cho, Tokushima City, this is one of the largest keyhole-shaped burial mounds in Tokushima Prefecture. Seen up close, the green-covered mound is far bigger than you imagine, and the fact that it was built by human hands is genuinely surprising. Walking around it while reading the information boards makes clear that this area held power in ancient times. It is a stone throw from the zoo and the amusement park, so it is a history stop you can easily add on the way to a day out. Walking it in the morning lets you finish before the sun climbs high.
Tips
It is a historic site, so please do not enter areas where access is restricted. In summer the grass grows thick and there are many insects, so long trousers and insect repellent are reassuring. Parking space is limited, so check road conditions in the area before heading over.
Best time to visit
About 45 minutes. The morning, before the temperature peaks, is recommended
