This museum introduces the history of Matsushige Town together with Awa puppet theater, a performing art deeply rooted in Tokushima. Doll heads, costumes and stage props actually used on stage are on display, and their fine craftsmanship tends to draw in the adults even more than the children. The explanations of the mechanisms that make the dolls' expressions move are easy for children to follow, making this a well-judged introduction to traditional performing arts. Exhibits on daily life in Matsushige and the history of land reclamation also show how this area came to be. The air-conditioned interior doubles as a good place to rest before the water play.
