Ai no Yakata (Indigo House)

About this spot

A history museum in Aizumi Town that conveys indigo production in Tokushima and the life of the indigo merchants. The estate that once handled indigo remains as it was, and the indigo vats lined up on the earthen floor and the figures recreating the work convey the air of an era when indigo was a major industry in Tokushima. The deep, clear blue makes a completely different impression in person than in photographs, and children find themselves staring at it. On some days you can try indigo dyeing, and a handkerchief you dyed yourself makes a fine memento of the trip. The earthen floors and storehouses stay cool inside, well suited to a summer morning.

東中富桜づつみ公園せせらぎ広場(じゃぶじゃぶ池)は、公園中央にある大きな池と滝を中心にした無料の水遊び場です。滝から続く池や小川をたどって歩けるので、ただ座って水をかけ合うだけでなく、探検するように遊べるのがこの場所のよいところ。池の水は水道水が使われており、小さな子を遊ばせる家族には安心材料になります。滝の裏側は岩のトンネルになっていて、中はミストでひんやり。暑い日には子どもたちが何度も出たり入ったりする人気スポットです。水に飽きたらわんぱく広場の遊具や芝生広場へ移動でき、桜づつみの名のとおり堤沿いに続く桜並木の木陰が休憩場所になるので、公園の中だけで一日が完結します。

開設期間は未発表です。藍住町・徳島県とも通水期間を公表していないため、出発前に現地の通水状況を必ず確認してください。料金は無料。滝や岩まわりは濡れて滑りやすいので、脱げにくいマリンシューズやサンダルが必須です。更衣室の有無は現地で確認し、着替えは車内やタオルポンチョで済ませられるよう準備しておくと安心です。小さな子どもからは目を離さず、水温が低く感じる日は短めに切り上げましょう。

Tips

Admission is charged. Check official sources in advance for fees, opening hours, closing days, and the dates and reservation requirements for indigo dyeing sessions. There are many steps inside the estate, so leaving the stroller at the entrance and carrying your child makes it easier to move around. If you try the dyeing, wear clothes you do not mind staining.
