About this spot

A facility standing on the shore of Fukushimagata Lagoon (福島潟) that introduces the nature of the lagoon. Exhibits cover the waterfowl and aquatic plants that gather here and the creatures that live among them, making clear just how rich an environment this great waterside spreading across the plain is. From the upper observation floor you can survey the whole of Fukushimagata, and the expanse of reed beds and the light on the water draw involuntary gasps. The interior is air-conditioned, so it suits spending a midsummer morning. Confirming with your own eyes just how close this land is to the water, before playing with water at the racecourse in the afternoon, deepens your understanding of the whole day.

JRA新潟競馬場こども広場水の広場（ポンピングウォーター）は、地面から水が噴き出す仕掛けで遊べる無料の水遊びスポットです。開設期間は未発表で、公式は「ポンピングウォーターは夏季期間中のみの実施」とのみ記載しています。深さのある水たまりではないので、水を怖がる小さな子どもでも様子を見ながら近づけます。噴き出す場所とタイミングが変わるため、待ち構えて水を浴びる遊びが自然と生まれるのも面白いところです。こども広場にはアスレチック遊具があり、体が冷えたら遊具で温めてまた水に戻れます。小学生以下が乗れるミニ新幹線もあり、一部期間を除いてミニチュアホースやポニーの展示も行われるので、水遊びと乗り物と動物が同じ広場にそろう競馬場ならではの構成です。

Tips

水の広場の利用は無料ですが、競馬開催日は競馬場の入場料が必要です。開設期間は未発表なので、出発前にJRA新潟競馬場の公式ページで当日の実施状況と開場時間を必ず確認してください。ミニチュアホースやポニーの展示は一部期間を除いての実施なので、目当てにするなら事前確認を。地面が濡れて滑りやすくなるため、脱げにくいサンダルやマリンシューズを履かせると安全です。更衣室があるとは限らないため、上から羽織れるタオルや簡易ポンチョを用意しておくと着替えに困りません。日陰が限られるので、日よけになるものと飲み物は多めに持っていきましょう。

Tips

Check the closed days and opening hours in advance. There may be a fee to visit the observation floor. If you go out onto the lagoon walking paths, insect repellent and a hat are essential in summer. Planning to have lunch en route to the next stop makes the afternoon schedule easier to predict.
