About this spot

A museum introducing the history and daily life of Kita Ward, Niigata City. Through farming implements and household tools, you come to see how this lagoon-surrounded area controlled the water and wove it into everyday life. Lagoon boats and fishing gear and other items unique to a waterside area are lined up, which is very much in keeping with this land. Visiting after seeing the scenery of Fukushimagata in the morning makes a concrete connection to how people have lived by that water. The museum is not too large in scale, so it is welcome that you can tour it without tiring, even with small children.

Tips

Check the closed days and opening hours in advance. The interior is a place to view quietly, so making a promise with your children before entering is reassuring. The racecourse is about a 10-minute drive away. Getting your water-play preparations in order before leaving here makes things go smoothly.

About 50 minutes. Touring it briefly in the early afternoon makes for just the right balance
