The JRA Niigata Racecourse Kodomo Hiroba Water Plaza (Pumping Water) is a free water-play spot where you play with a mechanism that shoots water up from the ground. The opening period has not been announced; officially only 「Pumping Water operates during the summer season only」 is stated. Since there is no deep pool of water, even small children who are afraid of water can approach at their own pace. Because the spot and timing of the spouting change, a game of lying in wait to get soaked arises naturally, which is part of the fun. The Kodomo Hiroba has athletic play equipment, so when children get chilly they can warm up on it and then return to the water. There is also a mini shinkansen that elementary school children and younger can ride, and except during certain periods, miniature horses and ponies are on display, so water play, rides and animals all come together in one plaza in a configuration unique to a racecourse.

Tips

Use of the Water Plaza is free, but on race days an admission fee for the racecourse is required. Since the opening period has not been announced, be sure to check the day's operating status and opening hours on the JRA Niigata Racecourse official page before you set out. The miniature horse and pony displays are held except during certain periods, so check in advance if that is your goal. The ground becomes wet and slippery, so having children wear sandals or water shoes that will not slip off is safer. A changing room is not guaranteed, so preparing a towel or simple poncho that can be worn over the shoulders makes changing easier. Shade is limited, so bring plenty of sun protection and drinks.

Best time to visit

Arrive at 14:00 and you can play for about two and a half hours until the sun begins to sink in the evening
