The Water Play Area in the park at Senshu Childcare Station 「Tekuteku」 is a free water-play spot at a facility where a park and the childcare station are combined. The city of Nagaoka describes it officially as a place that also has a space where you can enjoy slides, a sandpit and water play. The opening period has not been announced, but in past years it has run through the summer. The 20,000-square-metre park has a grassy mound, a stream and a tunnel, offering plenty of ways to play besides going into the water. Being able to move to the sandpit or the slide when bodies get cold, and to retreat to the covered plaza when the sun grows strong, is a very reassuring layout for families with small children. The childcare station also offers paid temporary childcare, so it is designed to be comfortable even for families bringing an infant along with an older child.

Tips

The childcare station is open from 9:00 to 18:00 and closed every Wednesday. Be sure to check that your visit does not fall on a Wednesday. The opening period of the water play area has not been announced, so checking the current year's situation on Nagaoka City's official page before you leave is the surest approach. The bottom of the waterway is slippery, so having children wear sandals or water shoes that will not slip off is safer. There may not be a changing room, so a towel you can wrap around yourself or a simple poncho will save you trouble when changing. If you will also play in the sandpit, a towel for brushing off sand and a spare pair of socks make the trip home more comfortable. Temporary childcare is charged and requires an application.
