About this spot

Oizumi Chuo Park is a metropolitan park developed on the former site of a U.S. military facility, with a lawn plaza and park paths spreading out around an athletics field. Large, mature trees line the paths, so choosing a shady spot lets you spread out a picnic sheet even in midsummer. Another good thing about this park is you're never at a loss for what to do after eating - watch people playing sports on the field, or take a stroll around the grounds. The Splash Pond is a short walk away, so you can decide freely when to take your break. There's a convenience store nearby, but it's more reliable to prepare your bento in advance.

Tips

Pick up your bento and drinks around the nearest station before entering the park, for a smoother trip. Taking your trash home with you is standard practice, so bring a bag. Shaded spots tend to fill up around lunchtime, so it's reassuring to claim one early. Avoid going into the water right after eating - wait about 20-30 minutes before heading to change.

Best time to visit

About 50 minutes. Waiting out the strong midday sun in the shade makes the afternoon easier.
