Nakano Numabukuro Hikawa Shrine (中野沼袋氷川神社)

Flow of the course

About this spot

This shrine has stood on the grounds of Numabukuro since ancient times, and legend holds that the Muromachi-era warrior Ota Dokan stopped here before battle. Large trees fill the grounds, creating a stillness that feels far removed from the station just steps away. The approach path circling the grounds is short, so it's an easy walk even with small children. The shrine is also the center of the local festival calendar, offering a sense of how life here has continued over the generations. Starting the day with a quiet prayer here helps settle the mind before setting out.

Tips

This is a place of worship, so remind children not to run around the grounds. It gets crowded on festival days, so check the calendar first if you'd like a quiet visit. Admission is free. There is a shopping street near Numabukuro Station, so it's a good time to pick up lunch and drinks to make the rest of the day easier.

Best time to visit

About 45 minutes. Early morning, when there are fewer visitors, is the quietest time
