The Akebono Park Water Play Facility, located in Akebono-cho, Utsunomiya City, is a free water play area with water flows, fountains, and a pond. In the 2026 season, it operates from July 18 (Sat) through August 30 (Sun), from 10:00 to 16:00. The grounds include a lawn plaza and a wooded plaza, and being able to rest in the shade of the trees is a welcome feature in summer. There is also combination play equipment, swings, and a sandbox, so when children tire of the water they can move to the play equipment, and when they tire of that, back to the water, letting them play all day at their own pace. Admission is free, so it's also fine to just stop by briefly in the evening.

Tips

It is scheduled to close for regular cleaning from August 20 to August 21. No water will flow on those days, so plan your visit for another time. Bare feet are not allowed in the water, so bring water shoes or sandals that won't easily come off. Playing in the sandbox gets sand all over, so bringing extra towels and a change of clothes will make the trip home easier. Closures can also happen suddenly due to weather, so check the City of Utsunomiya's information page for the day's status before you set out.

About 2 hours. The afternoon, when the sunlight softens, is recommended, and you can play until closing at 16:00
