About this spot

The Kaminotomatsuri Happoya Children's Park Water Play Area (上戸祭八方谷児童公園 水流施設) in Kaminotomatsuri, Utsunomiya, is a free water-play spot where kids can play freely in the middle of a residential neighborhood. In 2026 the season runs from Saturday, July 18 to Sunday, August 30, with hours from 10:00 to 16:00. The park also has a slide, swings, a horizontal bar, and a sandbox, so when kids tire of the water they can move to the play equipment, and back to the water when they tire of that, letting them keep playing at their own pace. With so many kinds of equipment, siblings of different ages can each find their own way to play. Since it's free to use, you can also stop by for just a short visit in the evening.

Tips

It's scheduled to be closed on July 30 and August 27 for regular cleaning. The water won't be running on those days, so plan for a different date. You can't go into the water barefoot, so bring water shoes that won't easily come off. Playing in the sandbox gets sand all over, so bringing extra towels and a change of clothes makes heading home easier. It can also close suddenly due to weather or other reasons, so check the City of Utsunomiya's information page for the day's status before you set out.

Best time to visit

About 2 hours. The afternoon, when the sunlight softens, is recommended, you can play until closing at 16:00.
