About this spot

An ancient shrine known for its approximately 1,000-step stone stairway called 'Hydrangea Hill' (ajisai-zaka). From mid-June to early July each year, the approach path is colored by thousands of hydrangea blossoms. From the shrine grounds at the summit, you can take in views of the entire Kanto Plain. The dumplings, grilled fowl, and rolled egg at the nearby Kenshin-daira teahouse are famous as the 'Three Famous Specialties of Taihei.'

Tips

Comfortable walking shoes are essential due to the length of the stone stairs. If time or stamina is limited, you can drive to the upper parking lot and simply enjoy the shrine grounds and views.

Best time to visit

60 to 90 minutes required. The evening offers excellent views and fewer crowds.
