This free water play area, the Fukui Sports Park Water Play Area (福井運動公園水遊び場), is set up on the east side of the Prefectural Swimming Pool (県営水泳場) at Fukui Sports Park. In 2026, it is open from Monday, July 20 (a national holiday) through Monday, August 31, between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM. The water is very shallow, just 0-5 cm deep, so even small children who can't swim yet can enjoy the water underfoot. There is a dedicated entrance next to the management building of the Prefectural Swimming Pool, and shoes must be removed to use the facility. Diapers alone are not permitted, but swim diapers are fine. Admission is free, so you can also stop by for just a short while. It's located within the large sports park, and since Fukui Children's Sports Park (Kodomo no Kuni) (福井少年運動公園(こどもの国)) is adjacent on the east side, you can also move on to the playground equipment once you've had enough of the water.

Tips

Closed on Saturday, August 1 and Sunday, August 2 for a competition. The facility closes when an extreme heat alert is issued, when there is a risk of lightning, or in stormy or rainy weather. It may also close for maintenance, so be sure to check Fukui Prefecture's official calendar for the day's opening status before heading out. Group visits require advance notice. Since you'll need to take off your shoes to enter, a small picnic sheet to keep your shoes and belongings together is handy.
