About this spot
A unique public garden in Takefu, where Murasaki Shikibu spent her youth, featuring a rare shindendzuri-style (Heian-period mansion garden) layout. A fishing pavilion and vermillion bridge extend over the pond, evoking the elegance of the Heian period, while a golden Murasaki Shikibu statue watches over the garden. A gentle walk through the park feels like stepping into the world of The Tale of Genji. Ending your craftsmanship-filled day here allows you to experience historical romance while winding down.
Tips
Free admission with parking available. The garden paths are flat and stroller-friendly. The adjacent Murasaki Shikibu and Kofu Museum (Yuka's Hall), an indoor facility, is a good alternative if rain becomes heavy. Wisteria blooms are spectacular in season.
Best time to visit
Approximately 45 minutes. Late afternoon light makes the fishing pavilion's reflection in the pond especially photogenic.
