Uminonakamichi Seaside Park Animal Forest (海の中道海浜公園 動物の森)

Flow of the course

About this spot

This is the animal area inside the state-run Uminonakamichi Seaside Park. Its appeal lies in getting an up-close look at laid-back-looking animals like capybaras, kangaroos, and squirrel monkeys. Unlike a large zoo, there's no need for a lot of walking around, and it's small enough to make a full loop while a small child's attention span still holds, which is a plus for families. The path winds through groves of trees with plenty of shade, making it relatively comfortable even in summer. The Animal Forest Rest House also has a shop, so take it easy and mix in breaks as you go around.

Tips

Park admission is 450 yen for adults, 210 yen for seniors, and free for junior high school students and younger. The park is spacious, so using a rental bicycle or the in-park bus makes getting around easier. The animal-touching corner's content varies by day, so check that day's information when you enter the park.

Best time to visit

About 45 minutes. In the late-morning hours before noon, the animals are often more active.
