Isahaya City Museum of Art and History (諫早市 美術・歴史館)

Flow of the course

About this spot

Located in Takashiro-machi, Isahaya, this is a city museum covering both art and history. The permanent exhibition room displays historical materials passed down in Isahaya along with artworks connected to this land. The volume of exhibits is just right — a size small children can get through without losing interest, which is a welcome touch. Around the museum are Isahaya Park, the Meganebashi Bridge, the Goshoin residence, and the Takashiro Corridor, so a walk after leaving the museum flows naturally into the rest of the day. Spending the morning in the air-conditioned indoor space helps save everyone's energy for a lively afternoon of water play.

Tips

Open 10:00-19:00, closed every Tuesday (or the following day if Tuesday is a holiday). If visiting on a Tuesday, rearrange the itinerary. Admission to the permanent exhibition room is 200 yen for adults and 100 yen for elementary and junior high school students, and free for elementary and junior high schoolers who live or attend school in Isahaya City. About a 5-minute walk from Shimabara Railway's Hon-Isahaya Station, or about 20 minutes from JR Isahaya Station. It's roughly a 15-minute drive from here to Isahaya Kantaku no Sato.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 10 minutes. Right after opening there are fewer visitors, making it easy to browse the exhibits at a relaxed pace
