Saga Prefecture's only airport spreads across flat land facing the Ariake Sea. The terminal is compact, but its open observation deck offers an up-close view of planes taking off and landing right in front of the runway. Since flights aren't frequent, it's best to check the timetable and time your visit around an arrival. The terminal has a shop and dining area, so you can even have lunch here before heading to the pool. Resting in the air-conditioned terminal makes it a fitting way to wrap up a midsummer morning.

Tips

The observation deck is outdoors with little to block the sun, so it's most comfortable to go up shortly before a plane's scheduled time. Parking is free for a set amount of time. It's about a 10-minute drive to the pool. You can freely tour the terminal even without boarding a flight.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour. Timing your visit with an arriving flight makes it more rewarding.
