Next stop: Learn the history of Amagasaki's castle town and the origins of the Danjiri FestivalAbout this spot
A castle that stands as the symbol of Amagasaki, rebuilt in 2019 through donations from local companies. It was originally built during the Edo period as the seat of the Amagasaki Domain, and today's keep offers a sweeping view over Amagasaki's city center. Inside, exhibits introduce the history of Amagasaki and the origins of its castle town, and it is also useful for getting your bearings around Kifune Shrine, the site of the evening's Danjiri Festival. The beautiful white walls, characteristic of this brand-new reconstructed keep, are also a highlight.
Tips
About a 10-minute walk from Hanshin Amagasaki Station. An admission fee is required to enter the castle. Sunlight is strong in summer, so remember to stay hydrated on your way up to the keep.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour. Visiting from morning through midday tends to be relatively uncrowded and easy to explore.
