Shotozan Nihon-ji Temple (Nichiren Sect Head Temple)

Flow of the course

About this spot

Located in Minaminaka, Tako Town, this Nichiren-sect temple is a storied site that once housed the Nakamura Danrin seminary. The approach is lined with tall trees, keeping the air cool even at the height of summer. The temple is also known for its hydrangeas, which color the approach in early summer. Without the crowds of a typical tourist spot, its quiet grounds let visitors feel the weight of history. Telling children that many monks once studied here can change how they see the grounds.

Tips

The grounds include stone steps and gravel paths, so wear comfortable walking shoes. Please keep quiet while visiting so as not to disturb other worshippers. It's a good idea to check parking availability and visiting permissions in advance. Mosquitoes are common in summer, so insect repellent will make walking more comfortable.

Best time to visit

About 55 minutes. The shade of the trees keeps it comfortable even during hours of strong sunlight.
