Kanshin-ji Temple (観心寺)

Flow of the course

About this spot

An ancient Shingon-sect temple located in the mountains of Kawachinagano City, known for its deep connection to Kusunoki Masashige during the Nanboku-cho period. The standout feature of the grounds is the Kondo Hall, designated a National Treasure, whose architecture blends the Japanese wayo and Zen styles and rewards close inspection down to the smallest details. The grounds are surrounded by trees, and even in summer, a cool breeze flows around the stone steps. Points of historical interest are scattered throughout, including the burial mound of Kusunoki Masashige's head and the Tatekake-to pagoda, making it fascinating to trace the temple's history.

Tips

The grounds include stone steps and slopes, so wear comfortable walking shoes. Visiting hours may change by season, so check the official information beforehand. It's about a 20-minute drive to Teragaike Park, so wrapping up your morning here and having lunch on the way gives you a comfortable margin for your afternoon plans.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour. Fewer visitors before noon make for a quiet visit.
