'Taidori Fureai Park River Pool' in Nichinan City is a summer-only water play spot created using a natural river, open in 2026 from Saturday, July 25 to Sunday, August 23. Unlike an artificial pool, the water here flows straight down from the mountains upstream. It stays refreshingly cool even in midsummer, and the riverbed is lined with round stones, giving children a fresh sensation underfoot. In the shallows, kids can splash each other or gently turn over stones to look for small creatures — the ways to play are endless. Surrounded by quiet green mountains, it offers a summer experience completely different from a pool in the city.

Tips

Check with Nichinan City's information in advance for details on fees and opening hours. The stones on the riverbed are slippery with moss, so be sure to have children wear marine shoes or shoes that can get wet. Water levels can rise suddenly if it rains upstream, so watch for changing weather and get out of the water early if the sky darkens. The mountain water is cold and can chill the body quickly, so take breaks and change clothes often. There aren't many shops nearby, so it's reassuring to bring your own drinks and snacks.

Best time to visit

About 3.5 hours from 1pm until evening. The period from 1pm to 3pm, when temperatures rise, is the best time to get in the water
