The Hida City Kamioka Elementary School Pool (public opening) is a school pool opened to the local community on weekday afternoons during the summer. It's a 25m pool, with a shallow step-pool area for children in part of it, so both kids who can swim and small children who want to play where they can stand can enjoy it together. In 2026, it is open on weekdays from Tuesday, July 21 to Tuesday, August 25, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM (last entry 3:00 PM), and is closed on weekends, holidays, and August 13-14. Admission is very affordable: free for Hida City residents in junior high school or younger, and 110 yen for high school age and up; for visitors from outside the city, it's free for preschoolers, 60 yen for elementary and junior high school students, and 110 yen for high school age and up.

Tips

The pool is open on weekdays only and is not available on weekends or holidays. Since last entry is at 3:00 PM, leave with plenty of time so you don't arrive too late. School pools often require swim caps, so it's a good idea to bring one for every family member. There is no shop on site, so bring your own drinks and towels. Weather can change quickly in the mountains, so rain gear is reassuring to have on hand.
