About this spot
Gotsu Municipal Pool is an outdoor pool in Gotsu Chuo Park, open only in summer. The 50m, eight-lane competitive pool has lanes 2.5m wide each, making it a full-fledged facility suitable even for water polo. There's also a wading pool with a slide and artificial waterfall, so little ones who can't swim yet can still enjoy splashing around to their heart's content. It typically opens from Monday, July 20 through Monday, August 31. Admission is 110 yen for elementary and junior high students, 220 yen for high schoolers, 440 yen for adults, and 550 yen for young children (accompanied by a guardian), with a 20% discount for groups of 30 or more. Since it's inside the park, you can also run around in the open field after your swim before heading home.
Season & hours
Name: 江津市民プール
Date & time: Typically 7/20 (Mon)–8/31 (Mon)
Venue: 江津市・江津中央公園
Tips
The 50m competitive pool is fairly deep, so it's safer for young children to start in the wading pool. Opening dates and hours can change from year to year, so check with Gotsu City's official information before you go. Shade is limited, so bring sunscreen, a rash guard, and a leisure sheet. Whether a concession stand is open depends on the day's operations, so it's safest to bring your own drinks.
Best time to visit
Entering at 1pm gives you a full afternoon. It's especially pleasant for swimming after 3pm, when the sunlight softens
