Kure City Yutaka Pool (呉市豊プール)

Flow of the course

About this spot

Kure City Yutaka Pool (呉市豊プール) is an outdoor pool run by Kure City on Osakishimojima Island (大崎下島), along the Tobishima Kaido (とびしま海道). It typically opens from Monday, July 20 through Monday, August 31, and features a 25m x 14m pool (1.1-1.3m deep, 6 lanes) as well as a 7m x 4m children's pool (0.7m deep). With 6 lanes, the pool doesn't get too crowded, so kids who want to practice swimming can go at their own pace. The children's pool is a shallow 0.7 meters deep, so even small children who aren't yet used to water can relax and enjoy it alongside a parent. What makes this pool truly special is its setting on an island surrounded by mandarin orange groves and blue sea, offering a peaceful atmosphere you can't find at pools in the city. Admission is affordable at 200 yen per visit for adults and 100 yen per visit for high school students and younger.

Tips

The pool closes temporarily when severe weather warnings such as heavy rain are issued, or in stormy conditions. Before heading over to the island, it's best to check Kure City's guide for the opening status to be sure. Opening hours change from year to year, so check that as well. Since it's an outdoor pool, shade is limited. Bring a picnic sheet and a hat, and drink water frequently. There are few shops on the island, so it's reassuring to bring drinks and snacks with you in advance.

Best time to visit

About 3 hours. In the afternoon, the sunlight softens and the sea breeze feels pleasant
