Shobara Kono Swimming Pool (庄原市高野水泳プール)

Flow of the course

About this spot

Shobara Kono Swimming Pool is an outdoor pool located in Kono-cho, in the highlands of the Chugoku Mountains at the northern edge of Hiroshima Prefecture. It typically opens from Tuesday, July 21 to Monday, August 31, and is closed from September 1 to July 20 of the following year (except when used by schools). Admission is free, so there's no burden on a family outing. Kono-cho stays cooler than the lowlands even in summer, and one of the unique comforts of this place is that the blazing heat eases even while standing poolside. Since it's a community pool that local children attend during summer vacation, it has none of the crowding of a large leisure pool. The flow of people is relaxed, making it a good spot for parents to watch nearby and teach their kids to swim.

Tips

Please check with Shobara City's official information in advance for the opening period, hours, and whether it is open on the day you plan to visit. On days when it is used by schools, it may not be open to the general public. It may be closed depending on the weather or temperature. Please check the details of the facilities on-site. Since there is no concession stand, it's reassuring to bring your own drinks and light snacks. Mornings and evenings can be cool in the highlands, so it's reassuring to bring something to layer on top.

Best time to visit

Entering at 12:40 gives you about 3 hours and 20 minutes until evening. Highland afternoons have soft sunlight, making it a comfortable time to play for a long stretch without getting too tired.
