Chugoku Electric Power Kogure Dam (中国電力 高暮ダム)

Flow of the course

About this spot

A stone dam located in the mountains of Kono-cho, Shobara City, with a history of being built during the war. The massive dam wall that suddenly appears at the end of a mountain road has an almost otherworldly presence amid the deep greenery, and looking up at it from nearby is overwhelming in scale. The surface of the dam lake is calm, and the scenery reflecting the surrounding mountains feels cool even in midsummer. The wind crossing the water is chilly enough to want a jacket. Viewing it while telling children about its historical background turns it into more than just scenery. It's a place to feel where the water that fills the pool actually comes from, before you go for a swim.

Tips

The mountain road continues for a while, so drive at a reduced speed. Some sections have no guardrail, so please be careful. There are no shops or vending machines nearby, so prepare drinks at the roadside station beforehand. Some areas near the dam have restricted access, so please follow the posted signs. Insect repellent will help make the visit more comfortable.

Best time to visit

About 50 minutes. Late morning, when the breeze off the water feels pleasant, is recommended.
