A small science museum in Etajima City themed around the nature of the Seto Inland Sea. It displays fish, shellfish, and crustaceans that live in the local sea, and its appeal lies in how close you can get your face to the tanks for a thorough look. It doesn't have the flash of a large aquarium, but that means you get more time to focus on each individual creature. Swimming after learning just how rich the island's sea is can make the afternoon at the pool feel a little different. The air-conditioned interior is also a convenient place to rest around midday.
Tips
Check opening days, hours, and admission fees in advance. There are days with hands-on programs, so if you want to join one, it's worth checking the schedule ahead of time. The museum isn't very large, so it suits a short visit. Bus service on the island is infrequent, so plan around traveling by car.
Best time to visit
About 45 minutes. A good way to spend the hot midday hours in a cool building.
