A gorge in the mountains of Kihoku Town, carved over a long time by a clear stream originating in the mountains of Shikoku. A promenade runs along the river, and walking beneath the trees feels refreshingly cool even in midsummer. The water is remarkably clear, and if you look into the shallows you may spot small fish. There are no flashy tourist facilities here, but the quiet time spent walking through nature is a luxury in itself. Spending the morning at this natural waterside before an afternoon at the pool turns the whole day into a memory filled with water.
Tips
Parts of the promenade get wet and slippery underfoot, so wear shoes suited for walking. Water levels can rise after heavy rain, so take it easy the day after rough weather. Insect repellent is handy in summer. Don't expect a shop here, so bring your own drinks.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour 30 minutes. When morning light streams into the valley, the water's clarity really stands out.
