Next stop: One of the Four Kannon Temples of Owari, an ancient temple on a hilltop overlooking the Shonai RiverAbout this spot
A fruit-themed park spreading at the foot of Mt. Toyayama, the highest peak in Nagoya City. The park features various orchards where you can walk while viewing fruits that ripen with the seasons. The highlight is the tropical fruit tree greenhouse, where plants that cannot grow in Japan, such as bananas, papayas, and mangoes, flourish, step inside and you are greeted by tropical air. For children, it is a continuous series of discoveries, realizing 'so this is how the fruit I see at the supermarket actually grows.' The exhibit gathering tropical fruit trees from around the world is worth seeing for adults too. There is also a wide lawn and pond, making it just the right size for a morning stroll.
Tips
The park is often closed on Mondays, so check the opening days in advance. The greenhouse requires an admission fee, but some areas of the park can be explored for free. The greenhouse is humid, so stay hydrated regularly. There are many insects in summer, so insect repellent is helpful.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour 20 minutes. Right after opening in the morning tends to be less crowded, allowing a leisurely visit to the greenhouse.
