Obakuba Oike Park
Flow of the course
About this spot
This rest forest centers on a pine grove stretching along the coast and a large pond further in. It is said to be named 'Obakuba' (curtain grounds) because the wives of the Murakami domain lord once pitched curtains here to enjoy cherry blossom viewing during the Edo period. The sea breeze passing through the pines feels cool even in midsummer, and simply walking the path lowers the perceived temperature. Waterfowl gather at the large pond, and if you wait quietly you may spot ripples spreading across the water's surface. It's a great stop to slowly savor Murakami's nature before heading to the pool.
Tips
There are many mosquitoes in the pine grove, so insect repellent and long sleeves make it more comfortable. The walking path is flat and easy to walk, but there are many forks, so taking a photo of the map at the entrance helps you avoid getting lost. There is no shop, so bring your own drinks.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour 10 minutes. The morning pine grove is beautiful with dappled sunlight, and the air is cool
