Higashi Village Forest Azalea Eco Park (東村村民の森つつじエコパーク, operated by Higashison Furusato Promotion Corporation)

Flow of the course

About this spot

This park is developed on hilly terrain in Higashi Village, characterized by its expansive grounds surrounded by the Yanbaru forest. It's known as an azalea viewing spot in spring, but in summer it's blanketed in deep green, and you can walk through the humid air characteristic of a subtropical forest. The grounds have walking trails, a campground, and viewpoints overlooking the valley scenery of Higashi Village. It's a quiet spot with fewer visitors compared to other Okinawan tourist destinations, which is what makes it nice for enjoying nature at your own pace.

Tips

The facility's opening hours and closed days change with the season, so check the official information before heading over. The Yanbaru forest has a lot of insects, so insect repellent makes for a more comfortable visit. The walking trails have ups and downs, so wear easy-to-walk-in shoes. Kanucha Resort is about a 15-minute drive away.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 10 minutes. The park is shaded by plenty of trees, making it easy to walk through even in the hot late-morning hours.
