Sozuka Citizens' Pool (曽束市民プール)

Flow of the course

About this spot

This is 'Sozuka Citizens' Pool,' a municipal outdoor pool in Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture. In 2026 it's open from Monday, July 20 to Monday, August 31, running on a two-session changeover system, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM (with a break from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM). With both a 25-meter pool and a children's pool, kids who want to swim can use the 25-meter pool while little ones getting used to the water can use the children's pool, so each family member can enjoy it at their own pace. Admission is 490 yen for general visitors and 330 yen for junior high school students, seniors, and people with disabilities. Set in a quiet part of southern Otsu City near the Seta River, it has more of a neighborhood feel than the lakeside areas crowded with tourists — a pool local families use as part of everyday life. Being able to visit again and again on different days over summer vacation is part of the appeal of a municipal pool.

Tips

Because of the changeover system, you can only use the pool during your chosen session's hours. The afternoon session starts at 1:00 PM, so arrive a bit early to allow time for reception and avoid wasting time. The pool is closed from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM for the break. Check Otsu City's official website in advance for fees and same-day opening status. Swim caps are generally required at municipal pools. Since shade is limited, bring a rash guard and sunscreen, and take breaks and drink water frequently.

Best time to visit

3 hours covering the entire afternoon session from 1:00 PM. Around 3:00 PM, when the sunlight softens, is the most comfortable time.
