Shimogo Town Pool is an outdoor pool in Shimogo Town, Minamiaizu District. It typically opens during the town's elementary and junior high school summer vacation period (late July to late August), running in two sessions: 10:00-11:45 in the morning and 13:00-16:00 in the afternoon (with a 5-minute break every hour). The general pool is 50m with 7 lanes and 1.1-1.3m deep, while the children's pool has a slide and is 60cm deep. Best of all, admission is free. Being able to swim freely alongside local children in the clear mountain air is a charm unique to a town-run pool. Being able to stop by without worrying about cost after sightseeing is a welcome option for families.

Tips

The pool opens in separate morning and afternoon sessions, and you cannot enter the water between 11:45 and 13:00. There is a 5-minute break every hour. Due to water shortages, operations are sometimes shifted to the pool at Shimogo Town Asahida Elementary School, so be sure to check with Shimogo Town's information for the day's location and hours before heading out. It gets cool in the mountains in the evening, so bring something to layer on.

Best time to visit

Arriving in time for the 1pm afternoon session lets you enjoy a full 3 hours of play until closing at 4pm
