About this spot
The Kodama no Mori Water-Play Pool (こだまの森 親水プール), located in Kodama no Mori in the Yabuhara Highlands, Kiso Village, usually operates from mid-July to late August, and in 2026 it opens on Saturday, July 18. Sitting on a highland over 1,000 meters above sea level, the air stays refreshingly dry even in midsummer, and the breeze after getting out of the water is remarkably pleasant -- its biggest appeal. Water depths are divided into three levels -- 1m, 60cm, and 40cm -- so kids who want to swim and little ones still getting used to the water can each play in a spot that suits them. Floats are allowed, so bringing a favorite float can make the day even more exciting for kids. Half-day admission is 700 yen for adults (high school age and up) and 400 yen for children (junior high school age and under). Surrounded by deep forest, it's a water-play spot with an atmosphere hard to find elsewhere.

Tips
Operating season, hours, and closed days can change from year to year, so be sure to check the official information in advance. Because of the high elevation, the water doesn't warm up easily, and it can feel suddenly cold once you get out. Bring plenty of something to layer on and extra towels. Since pricing is set by half-day, deciding in advance whether to go in the morning or afternoon makes planning easier. There are few shops nearby, so it's reassuring to bring your own drinks and snacks.
Best time to visit
About 3.5 hours from 1pm until evening. 1pm to 3pm, when temperatures peak, is the most comfortable time to get in the water.
