About this spot
The Tsutamigawa River Pool uses the water of the Tsutami River, which flows through the mountains of Yabakei-machi, Nakatsu City, Oita Prefecture. In 2026 it is open from Saturday, July 18 through Monday, August 24. The pool is split into two sections: a 25-meter pool for swimming, and a shallow pool for small children with a slide. It's a big draw for families that siblings of different ages can play together at the same time, each at a depth suited to them. Following flood damage in fiscal 2023, repair work was carried out, and the pool has since reopened. It is managed by the Nakatsu City Yabakei Branch Office, and admission is free.

Tips
Since the water comes straight from the mountains, it feels quite cold even in midsummer. Avoid staying in too long, and take frequent breaks to warm up. Don't expect a shop on site, so bring your own drinks and snacks. Since this facility uses natural river water, water levels and opening status can change after heavy rain. Check the Nakatsu City Yabakei Branch Office's notices for the latest status before heading out. Please take all your trash home with you.
Best time to visit
Getting in the water from around 14:00 lets the sun warm it up a little, giving you plenty of time to swim through the evening
