Flow of the course

About this spot

This wide waterfall on the Ochise River is nicknamed the 'Niagara of Oku-Mikawa' for its shape. Its width is more striking than its height, and the sight of white water sliding across the entire rock face is dramatic, spilling into a deep, emerald-green pool below. An observation deck and suspension bridge are set up overlooking the falls, letting you look down at the flow of water from above. It's a meaningful stop to see another expression of the same river you'll play in during the afternoon. Near the falls, the misting spray keeps the air cool, making it pleasant even in summer.

Tips

Viewing is free, and it's accessible on foot from the Toei Onsen parking lot. The pool below the falls is deep with a strong current, so do not enter the water here—limit your visit to viewing from the observation deck and suspension bridge. Stay away from areas without railings, and keep a close eye on children. After rain, the increased water volume makes for a more dramatic view, but footing becomes slippery, so take care.

Best time to visit

About 50 minutes. Late morning, when the sun is high and the water surface sparkles, is the most impressive time to visit
